  • Open 282 blends offshore capability with family friendly versatility thanks to a larger hull plus a wider cockpit and flexible forward seating.
  • Its long range comes from a 230 gallon fuel capacity with about 210 gallons usable, a 22 degree deadrise and up to 600 horsepower for upper 50 mph performance.
  • Integrated SportTech and SportLink deliver a clean and connected helm with Garmin electronics and digital switching.

The Open 282 represents a major jump into serious offshore center console capability while still maintaining the versatility and comfort that define the Open Series. As the platform grows into the upper 20-foot category, everything about the boat starts to feel larger and more substantial, from the ride quality and deck space to the range and overall offshore confidence. It’s a model designed for boaters who want to comfortably push farther offshore while still maintaining a layout equally suited for family cruising, sandbar days and entertaining.

At 28 feet 5 inches in length with a 9 foot 10 inch beam, the Open 282 carries a noticeably larger footprint that immediately changes how the boat feels both underway and at rest. The added beam creates significantly more cockpit volume, wider walkways and deeper seating throughout the boat while also improving stability when fishing, drifting or relaxing at anchor.

With a 23 inch draft, the Open 282 still maintains manageable shallow water capability for its size, but this platform is clearly designed with offshore performance in mind. A 230 gallon fuel capacity, with approximately 210 gallons usable, gives the Open 282 serious range for offshore runs, island hopping and longer days on the water without constantly monitoring fuel burn.

That offshore capability is backed by the hull design. A 22 degree deadrise at the transom gives the Open 282 a deeper and more aggressive running surface designed to soften impacts and improve comfort as offshore conditions begin to build. Combined with the larger hull size and overall weight, the Open 282 delivers a noticeably smoother and more controlled ride when running in rougher water or crossing larger offshore swells.

Performance reflects the balance between offshore capability and overall versatility. With up to 600 horsepower available, the Open 282 is capable of reaching into the upper 50 mph range while still maintaining efficient cruise speeds in the 30 mph range depending on power configuration and conditions. Whether paired with twin Yamaha F300s or Mercury V10 power, the Open 282 has the performance to comfortably cover serious distance offshore while remaining predictable and manageable around the dock.

That performance starts with how the Open 282 is built. Every Open 282 is constructed using Sportsman’s SportTech® advanced fabrication approach, built with 100 percent composite construction and a fully integrated fiberglass stringer system. With no wood in the build, the structure is designed for long-term durability while maintaining the strength and rigidity needed for offshore use.

The fiberglass stringer system creates a rigid foundation beneath the hull that helps distribute loads and absorb impact throughout the structure. As boats continue increasing in size and offshore capability, hull rigidity becomes even more important in maintaining long-term ride quality and structural consistency.

At the helm, the Open 282 integrates the SportLink® electronics system, connecting Garmin electronics, digital switching and onboard systems into one centralized interface. Garmin multifunction displays (MFDs), Garmin VHF radios, JL Audio integration and SeaStar digital switching all work together through the SportLink® system to create a clean, modern and highly connected helm layout.

The layout is where the Open 282 really begins to show its versatility. Up front, the bow seating area offers expansive wraparound seating with removable filler cushions and table configurations that allow the space to quickly transition between cruising, entertaining and lounging. In the cockpit, dual transom aquarium livewells, in-deck fish boxes, rod holders and open workspace support serious offshore fishing while still maintaining a comfortable layout for family use.

Features like dual side entry doors, integrated swim platforms, available second station configurations and a spacious console head compartment continue adding to the versatility of the Open 282. It’s a boat equally capable of tournament fishing, offshore cruising or spending an entire weekend exploring the coast with family and friends.

Everything about the Open 282 is designed to expand what owners can comfortably do on the water. It has the range, ride quality and offshore capability to confidently handle longer runs while still maintaining the comfort, usability and versatility that make the Open Series such a balanced platform overall.
