Welcome to The Sportsman Insider, a new series designed to showcase the progress of future models at Sportsman Boats. Unlike the in-depth look at each step in the boat building process seen on Behind The Glass, The Sportsman Insider is all about following the big-picture progress of new models at Sportsman Boats.
Season 1 - Episode 1
Unveiling The Open 402 Hull
In our first episode, we highlight the start of something groundbreaking: the Open Series Flagship Model, the all-new Open 402. At 40' 4" feet, it’s the largest, most advanced boat ever built by Sportsman. This is where Sportsman Design Language 3.0 begins. You’ll see the Open 402’s hull come to life — from a bare mold to a fully infused foundation. Setting the stage for innovations and features never before seen on a Sportsman. This is the beginning of a new era for the Sportsman Boats, and we’ll be bringing you along for every milestone.
Season 1 - Episode 2
Capping The Open 402 + More
In our second episode, the Open 402 begins to take its full shape. From popping the deck mold and rigging the hull and deck, to building the fixture that will serve as the template for every console frame to come, each step marks a defining moment. The process reaches a milestone as the hull and deck are capped together, and the flagship model of the Open Series truly comes to life. From here the rest of assembly will quickly take place before it's time to debut at FLIBS 2025 October 29 - November 2.
Season 1 - Episode 3
The All-New Open 402 - The Final Touches
In our third episode of The Sportsman Insider, the Open 402 is nearing the finish line. This stage is all about final touches — the hardtop is installed, electronics are powered up, upholstery is fitted, console glass is sealed, and the side entry doors are secured. Every detail comes together to complete the flagship of the Open Series. The journey continues as the boat makes its way onto the trailer, ready to head south for its highly anticipated debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 29 – November 2, 2025.
